US raw steel output falls after five weeks of increases: AISI

Domestic raw steel production in the US was 1,776,000 net tons in the week to Saturday June 28, while capacity utilization was 79.1%, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Broken down by districts, production stood at 798,000 tons in the South, 560,000 tons in the Great Lakes, 226,000 tons in the Midwest, 121,000 tons in the Northeast and 71,000 tons in the West, for a total of 1,776,000 tons.
Production increased by 4.3% from the corresponding period of 2024, when output was 1,703,000 net tons and capacity utilization was 76.7%.
Production is down by 0.6% from the previous week, when production was 1,787,000 net tons and capacity utilization was 79.6%.
Adjusted year-to-date production through June 28 was 43,418,000 tons, at a capacity utilization rate of 75.9%, up by 0.3% from the 43,275,000 tons in the corresponding period of 2024, when the capacity utilization rate was 76.2%.
Please note the year-ago and year-ago-to-date figures reflect revised data published by the AISI this week; as a result, those numbers may not align with the crude steel production chart published by Fastmarkets, which utilizes data released by the AISI in previous years.
