US steel service center chain Peerless Steel, based in the state of Michigan, has acquired the assets of Quality Steel at Dayton, in the neighboring state of Ohio, expanding the company’s geographic reach and lowering lead times in the US Midwest, the company has said in an exclusive interview with Fastmarkets.

We have been expanding our market share in Ohio for the past 15 years, and we are thrilled to now have a presence in southwest Ohio, company president Carl Bartells said.
The acquired facility covers 43,000 square feet and provides services to Ohio, and to that state’s southerly neighbors, Indiana and Kentucky. Peerless currently operates three locations in Michigan.
The acquisition will also reduce transportation costs, Bartells said.
Peerless will also expand its product offerings. It plans to distribute aluminium, stainless steel and other speciality grades from the Ohio location. Additional sizes such as 1/8-inch products will also be offered.
