Nucor increased steel plate prices by $40 per short ton ($2 per hundredweight) in a letter to customers on Friday March 28.
The increase applies to all carbon, normalized and quenched-and-tempered plate products, and is effective with all new orders received from Friday, according to the letter.
This follows a plate price hike of $160 per ton announced in a letter to customers on February 24.
The steelmaker also said it was opening order books for May production.
Fastmarkets’ latest weekly price assessment for steel cut-to-length plate carbon grade, fob mill US was $60 per hundredweight ($1,200 per ton) on Tuesday March 25, flat since March 4, when it rose by 13.21% from $53 per cwt the week prior.
