US-based steelmakers Nucor, Gerdau Long Steel North America, Steel Dynamics Inc, and Deacero’s Mid-Continent Steel and Wire all raised their published offer prices for steel beams by $25 per short ton ($1.25 per hundredweight) effective with new orders received on Monday April 14.
Nucor led the round of price increases on April 11 for wide-flange beams, standard beams, miscellaneous channels, and piling products.
All confirmed orders as of the close of business on April 11, 2025, will be price-protected if shipped before May 3, 2025, Nucor said.
Gerdau, SDI and Deacero notified customers on Monday of their higher prices, also effective from April 14 with similar price protections.
A buyer said that the price increase seems a waste for just a small amount.
The latest price rises came only month after steelmakers notified customers of a $35 per ton increase. Before March, beams prices had been flat for 11 consecutive months since February 2024.
The latest price increase also came after a decline in scrap prices of $20-40 per gross ton on April 9.
Fastmarkets’ most recent monthly price assessment for steel beams, 8×8-inch, fob mill US, was $65.00 per cwt ($1,300 per short ton) on March 27, up by 2.77% from the price of $63.25 per cwt current between March 28, 2024, and February 27, 2025.
