The Mexican ferrous scrap market was relatively quiet in the week to Tuesday April 22, with prices either unchanged or modestly lower and no upside expected in the future, according to suppliers.

There is no good expectation for May, and sideways is the best-case scenario, a seller into the Bajio and Monterrey markets said, adding that they believe the market has peaked for the near term.
The market also experienced a pause due to fewer transactions taking place, as companies shut down on Thursday April 17 and Friday April 18 ahead of the Easter holiday.
Shredded scrap was the highest priced grade, and remained unchanged.
Fastmarkets’ weekly assessments of the steel scrap shredded auto scrap, consumer buying price, delivered mill Bajio and the steel scrap shredded auto scrap, consumer buying price, delivered mill Monterrey were 7,100 pesos ($363) per tonne on Tuesday, unchanged from their previous assessments.
In spite of stamping plants being less busy as of late — partially due to the tariffs — the price for No1 busheling retreated in Bajio.
Fastmarkets assessed steel scrap No1 busheling, consumer buying price, delivered mill Bajio at 6,700 pesos per tonne on Tuesday, down by 200 pesos per tonne over the past week.
At the same time, mills are trying to push prices lower due to less demand and receiving smaller volumes, the seller into both regions said, adding that each mill is facing its own unique set of challenges that is limiting their appetites for scrap.
