US Midwest HRC index virtually flat amid muted trading

Hot-rolled coil prices in the US Midwest were virtually flat on Wednesday, July 2, amid continued muted trading, with mills holding firm on pricing. Fastmarkets’ daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US Midwest was calculated at $45.42 per hundredweight ($908.40 per short ton) on Wednesday, broadly stable from $45.40 per cwt on Tuesday July 1 and up by 0.87% from $45.03 per cwt a week earlier.
Inputs were collected in the buyer sub-index in a range of $44.50-45.50 per cwt, representing general assessments of the spot market.
Inputs were rolled over in the seller sub-index due to a lack of liquidity.
Heard in the market Spot market trading, already muted, dipped ahead of the Independence Day holiday on Friday July 4.
Sources reported no change in pricing, saying they expect it to be flat in the near term.
Lead times were reported to be at four to six weeks.
