Hot-rolled coil prices in the US Midwest surpassed $930 per short ton on Monday March 10 as mills continue to elevate offering prices amid an uncertain US tariff policy.

Fastmarkets’ daily steel hot-rolled coil index, fob mill US Midwest was calculated at $46.88 per hundredweight ($937.60 per short ton) on Monday, up by 3.69% from $45.21 per cwt on Friday March 7 and up by 4.29% from $44.95 per cwt a week earlier on March 3.
Inputs were collected in both the buyer and seller sub-indices in a range of $45.75-47.50 per cwt, representing deals, offers and general assessments of the spot market.
For the seventh consecutive week, Nucor increased its weekly consumer spot price announcement on Monday to a $45.75 per cwt ($915.00 per ton) base price for the steelmaker’s hot-roll products for the remainder of this week, up by 1.67% from $45.00 per cwt ($900.00 per ton) last week.
Mills continue to hike offer prices amid healthy order books despite ongoing economic and market uncertainty due to the ever-evolving US tariff and trade policy under President Donald Trump, sources said.
While demand has shown signs of improvement, spot activity has slowed down over the last week as a result of the prevailing market uncertainty surrounding the imposition of proposed tariffs, sources said.
Lead times continue to be reported around five to eight weeks.
Quote of the day Demand is still weak. We have witnessed, for the past year, a contracting manufacturing sector, and it is not getting better, particularly in view of the uncertainties created by the Trump administration’s economic policy, a trader source said.
