TEAMMATE SPOTLIGHT - SEAN MARTIN/RMR
My name is Sean Martin. I started my career in 2018 as the Production Lead II at River Metals Recycling (RMR) in Louisville, KY, working in the Nonferrous Department. Although I have worked in Louisville my entire tenure, I have been assigned to work at several other locations, including Grade Lane (Louisville), Campground (Louisville), Glasgow, KY, New Albany, IN, Seymour, IN, and Jacksonville, FL (TMR).
Working at the various locations enabled me to train other teammates and show them how RMR/Nucor operates safely. Safety is the most important thing we do every day. One of my most memorable moments was working with the nonferrous crew at Glasgow, KY. They are a great crew; we did a fantastic job of turning the warehouse and safety culture around. It was a rewarding experience.
I work safely for my family every day. I have a wonderful fiancé, two beautiful daughters, two soon-to-be stepchildren, and three awesome grandchildren. They are my WHY!

THE CIRCULARITY OF
RECYCLING SCRAP METAL

Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking is a sustainable process that significantly reduces the reliance on carbon rich raw materials. By using scrap metal as the primary input, EAFs recycle existing steel, which reduces carbon emissions. This process not only minimizes waste but also allows for the continuous reuse of steel, making it a key component in the circular economy. The steel produced through EAFs can be used in various applications, from construction to automotive, and can be recycled indefinitely, contributing to a more sustainable future.
